ABSTRAK I Nyoman Catra adalah seniman multilatenta, yang juga seorang koreografer dengan karyanya yang apik. Beliau merupakan dosen ISI Denpasar yang telah purna tugas, namun tidak berhenti berkarya. Pengalamannya dalam mencipta tari, serta pengalaman hidupnya dalam menempuh pendidikan seni hingga ke luar negeri, menjadikannya sebagai salah satu seniman hebat yang patut dicontoh. Setiap koreografer memiliki cara tersendiri dalam menciptakan karya tari, yang merupakan perpaduan dari teori serta pengalaman berkesenian yang telah dilaluinya. Demikian halnya dengan I Nyoman Catra yang memiliki cara tersendiri dalam mencipta tari yang tentunya sangat berharga untuk dibagikan, khususnya kepada para koreografer muda sebagai sebuah motivasi, inspirasi, serta memperkaya ragam metode dalam mencipta tari. Penelitian studi tokoh ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap proses kreatif I Nyoman Catra dalam menciptakan sebuah karya tari. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data yakni dengan wawancara dan studi literatur. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah tahap penciptaan seni yang dilalui Nyoman Catra yakni dengan menentukan ide, konsep (sistem web, atau sistem kipas), newasin/nuasen, eksperimen-pembentukan-penghalusan, dan pentas. Kata Kunci: Proses Kreatif, Koreografer, I Nyoman Catra. ABSTRACT THE CREATIVE PROCESS OF CHOREOGRAPHER I NYOMAN CATRA, DECEMBER 2023. I Nyoman Catra is a multitalented artist who is also an accomplished choreographer. He is a retired lecturer at ISI Denpasar who has continued to work. His expertise in choreographing dance and his life experience studying art overseas drive him one of the great artists to emulate. Each choreographer has their method for developing dance works, combining theory and artistic experience he has undergone. Similarly, I Nyoman Catra has a strategy for creating dance works that is extremely valuable to share, particularly with young choreographers, as a source of motivation, inspiration, and a means of enriching the various methods for creating dance. This figure study research aims to demonstrate I Nyoman Catra’s creative process in developing a dance work. The data has been collected using interviews and literature reviews. The findings of this study are the stages of art creation that Nyoman Catra underwent, including determining ideas, conceptions (Web Sistem or Kipas Sistem), newasin/nuasen, experiments-shaping-refining, and performances.
