PENGEMBANGAN KOMPOSISI DAN DESAIN APLIKASI RUFFLE PADA BUSANA WANITA

In general, accessories used in clothing are ribbons, lace, sequins, and ruffle that involve manipulating fabric technique. This study focuses on the ruffle technique. The ruffle is a long piece of fabric gathered onto a shorter one, made from a single or double layer of fabric. In Indonesia, many designers and local brands have worked on the techniques of making ruffles, and yet its application is lacking. This phenomenon can be seen from the Indonesian designers’ collection of either ready to wear or haute couture over the past 5 years using ruffles only as accents. Besides, lack of diversity in material has hindered the improvement of ruffle styles and its application. The purposes of this study is first, to provide alternative composition and designs of the ruffle technique application to the prevailing ruffle designs; second, to explore the finest ruffle techniques in terms of functional and aesthetic aspects; and third, to produce women’s clothing with the application of ruffle techniques. The data of this study were collected through library research, observation, and exploration.

Pada umumnya, aplikasi yang digunakan pada busana berupa pita, renda, payet, dan salah satu diantaranya menggunakan teknik manipulating fabric yaitu ruffle. Dalam kajian ini teknik yang diambil yaitu ruffle. Ruffle adalah sepotong kain yang panjang diambil dari arah serat serong lalu dikerut agar menimbulkan gelombang, dibuat dari selembar bahan atau dobel bahan. Di Indonesia designer dan brand lokal telah banyak yang mengolah teknik ruffle, namun pengaplikasian dari ruffle ini sendiri kurang maksimal. Hal ini dilihat dari koleksi desainer Indonesia selama 5 tahun terakhir yang menggunakan ruffle hanya sebagai aksen baik koleksi ready to wear maupun haute couture. Selain itu, pemilihan material yang kurang beragam membuat penggayaan aplikasi dari ruffle tidak dikembangkan secara maksimal. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memberikan alternatif komposisi dan desain dari pengaplikasian teknik ruffle terhadap desain ruffle yang telah ada sebelumnya, menghasilkan eksplorasi teknik ruffle yang optimal dan baik dari segi fungsional dan estetika, dan menghasilkan busana wanita dengan aplikasi teknik ruffle. Metode penelitian yang digunakan untuk pengambilan data adalah dengan studi pustaka, observasi, dan eksplorasi.
