Theories regarding early human migration to the archipelago have been widely expressed by researchers. Some believe that Indonesian inhabitants originated from Yunan (Austroasiatic), Taiwan (Austronesian) even from other places. This research seeks to present alternative studies of early civilizations using a visual culture approach. Visual culture at issue is a culture of artifacts including clothing, houses, visual arts, written alphabet, and so forth. The findings obtained from this study are hypotheses that Indonesia is a place of cultural crossing that at least involves elements from the Austroasiatic, Austronesian, and other Asian nations (South Asia and the Middle East). Therefore, in Indonesia there is no such thing as a native or migrant. This research is a preliminary research that requires further studies relating to increasing public understanding about the origin of the Indonesian nation. Thus, it is expected to give contribution to harmony between ethnic groups in Indonesia.
