DINAMIKA KEHIDUPAN TARI TOPENG GAYA INDRAMAYU (1940an–2010)

Abstrak
Tulisan ini membahas dinamika kehidupan tari topeng gaya Indramayu sejak tahun 1940-an sampai tahun 2010. Dalam eksistensinya, tari topeng gaya Indramayu mengalami perkembangan yang signifikan, khususnya setelah kemerdekaan Indonesia. Pertanyaan yang muncul adalah bagaimana seni tradisi ini mampu bertahan dan berkembang di tengah situasi politik yang tidak menentu pada periode tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap dinamika kehidupan tari topeng gaya Indramayu dengan unsur-unsur pendukungnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan Metode Sejarah, yang terdiri atas empat tahap: 1) Heuristik; 2) Kritik; 3) Interpretasi; dan 4) Historiografi. Teori-teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis permasalahan ini ialah teori “Kontrak Sosial” yang dikemukakan oleh James A Brandon dan teori “Kreativitas” yang dikemukakan oleh Damajanti. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa unsur-unsur yang mendukung eksistensi dan dinamika kehidupan tari topeng gaya Indramayu di antaranya ialah dukungan pemerintah dan dukungan masyarakat, serta adanya kreativitas dari dalang topéng.

Abstract
This article discusses the dynamic of life of Indramayu Style Mask Dance from 1940s to 2010. Indramayu Style Mask Dance has significant development in its existence, especially after the independence of Indonesia. The question is how this traditional art survives and develops in the uncertained political situation in that period? This research aims at revealing the dynamic of life of Indramayu Style Mask Dance and its supporting elements. The research used Historical Method, which consists of four steps: 1) Heuristic; 2) Critics; 3) Interpretation; and 4) Historiography. The theories which are applied to analyze the subject are the theory of “Social Contract” stated by James A Brandon and the theory of “Creativity” by Damajanti. The result of the research shows that some elements that support the existence and the dynamic of life of Indramayu Style Mask Dance among others are the government and community support, and the creativity of Topeng dancer.
