PENERAPAN TEKNIK ZERO WASTE PATTERN CUTTING PADA BUSANA STREETWEAR WANITA DENGAN MATERIAL DENIM

Environmental pollution is increasing as the fashion industry is rising. It is due to the great amount of waste, about 80 million tons per year for production. This fact makes it the second-largest polluter in the world, after the oil industry. Among other types of textiles, denim causes major damage to the environment. From the early stage, the manufacturing process of denim has produced excessive waste. Zero-waste fashion design gives an alternative solution to reduce fashion waste. Zero-waste fashion design is a technique for maximizing pattern-cutting method that generates no scrap. The research is aimed to design a collection of clothing with minimum waste by applying the zero-waste technique, using denim fabric designed into street style by combining outwears with a surface-tie-dye-bleaching technique.

Perkembangan industri fashion berbanding lurus dengan dampak negatifnya yaitu pencemaran lingkungan. Hal ini disebabkan oleh banyaknya limbah selama masa produksi sekitar 80 juta ton per tahun, sehingga menjadi penghasil limbah terbesar kedua setelah limbah minyak. Salah satu jenis pakaian yang berperan besar dalam pencemaran lingkungan adalah denim. Sejak awal, pembuatan kain denim telah menghasilkan limbah dalam jumlah besar. Denim merupakan pakaian yang sudah lama disimpan konsumen, namun dampak produksinya terhadap kondisi lingkungan sangat signifikan. Desain Mode Zero Waste bisa menjadi salah satu cara untuk mengurangi limbah produksi fashion. Desain Mode Zero Waste merupakan teknik yang memaksimalkan metode pemotongan pola sehingga tidak menghasilkan sisa produksi dari bahan yang digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang koleksi busana minim limbah dengan teknik desain busana Zero Waste, serta penggunaan kain denim yang diimplementasikan ke dalam street style berupa kombinasi outwear dengan teknik surface tie dye bleaching.
