SEMIOTIKA HISTORIS PADA KARYA RUPA MAHARANI MANCANAGARA

The story written based on past events by R. Soegriwo Jeododiwirdjo (1910-1987) tells about a person who was obsessed with becoming a teacher in the period before the independence of Indonesia. Maharani Mancanagara, an artist from Bandung, tried to imagine a historical event written by R. Soegriwo Jeododiwirdjo, his grandfather, through a visual artwork. Of the many works, the researchers selected an artwork to be analyzed, namely the work entitled Sprongen Voor Zooneschijn. This study aims to figure out and describe the signs presented by Maharani through her work by using a qualitative method, Barthes’s semiotic and synchronous approaches. It focuses on how the signs, meanings and messages intended to be conveyed through a historical story taking place in Indonesia are re-presented by Maharani in her work at present.

Cerita yang ditulis berdasarkan kejadian di masa lalu oleh R.Soegriwo Jeododiwirdjo (1910 - 1987), yaitu seorang yang terobsesi menjadi seorang guru pada masa sebelum kemerdekaan Indonesia. Maharani Mancanagara seorang seniman asal Bandung mencoba membayangkan peristiwa sejarah yang ditulis R.Soegriwo Jeododiwirdjo yaitu kakeknya melalui sebuah karya rupa. Dari sekian banyak karya, peneliti memilih satu karya untuk dianalisis yaitu karya dengan judul Sprongen Voor Zooneschijn. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan tanda yang dihadirkan Maharani melalui karya-karyanya dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif serta pendekatan semiotika Barthes dan sinkronis. Persoalan yang muncul adalah bagaimana tanda, makna serta pesan yang ingin disampaikan melalui cerita sejarah yang terjadi di Indonesia dihadirkan kembali oleh Maharani di masa sekarang dengan karyanya.
