ANALISA SURVEILLANCE DALAM GEDUNG CASA MILÀ ANTONI GAUDI

Casa Milà is one of the buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The building was planned to be a spiritual symbol, before it was abolished due to various situations that took place that day, such as people rebellion against government troops, anti-clerical movements, and its violations of the building standards in Barcelona. As an architectural building, it shows the most typical features of Gaudi’s styles and is one of the buildings that was quite controversial in its era. This study examines the roof formation section of Casa Milà by using theory of surveillance, especially that of panopticon. The analysis was done by interpreting the forms on the roof towards the gaze experience in a narrow sense of looking and watching (spying) because, a building with its own panopticon elements is usually synonymous with its function to supervise an object to cause a sense of discipline. The emergence of panopticon elements in this building indicates an unsafe situation that occurred in the city of Barcelona, especially when the building was intended as a spiritual symbol.

Casa Milà adalah salah satu gedung ciptaan Antoni Gaudi yang dinobatkan menjadi Situs Warisan Dunia oleh UNESCO. Gedung ini diciptakan dengan gambaran awal sebagai simbol spiritual, sebelum pada akhirnya digagalkan akibat berbagai situasi yang ada pada zamannya, seperti adanya pemberontakan rakyat terhadap tentara pemerintah, gerakan anti-klerik, hingga pelanggaran pada standar gedung kota Barcelona. Sebagai sebuah gedung arsitektur, bangunan ini sangat khas dengan gaya Antoni Gaudi dan merupakan salah satu bangunan yang pada zamannya cukup kontroversial. Penelitian ini meneliti bagian bentukan atap Casa Milà dengan menggunakan teori surveillance khususnya mengenai panopticon. Analisis dilakukan melalui penginterpretasian bentuk-bentuk pada atap terhadap pengalaman gaze (memandang) dalam artian sempit menatap dan mengawasi (memata-matai). Hal ini dikarenakan gedung dengan unsur panopticon sendiri biasanya identik dengan fungsinya untuk mengawasi suatu objek untuk menimbulkan rasa disiplin. Munculnya unsur panopticon dalam gedung ini menandakan adanya situasi tidak aman yang terjadi dalam kota Barcelona, terlebih gedung ini ditujukan sebagai simbol spiritual.
